Prelim

In todays lesson (08/10/15) we had our first meeting for our Pre-lim task in our groups, my group consists of me Toby, Alex and Tez. We are creating a scene for a film that has the genre of action.
Today we planned the scene, making sure that we include the shots needed these are:
  • Match on action
  • Reverse shot
  • An establishing shot
  • At least two close ups of the characters
  • A tracking shot
  • High angle shot
Therefore when deciding what we was going to do for our film scene we took into context the shots we needed. We discussed our ideas and drew pictures on our story board to make sure we know where we are filming and what we are filming. We worked out who the actors were and what role everyone has in the task. We also planned when we was going to meet to shot the film and planned time to shot and time to edit. We then decided that we was going to go straight into action in the scene, and also planned when we was going to film the tracking shot.
This is our story board so far, we are going to add text to it in  our next meeting.

In todays lesson (09/10/15) we had our second meeting for our Pre-lim task in our groups. Today we added to the story board in detail and confirm when we was going to be filming and what the story line for the scene will be. After our first meeting members of the group went to where we was going to film and assessed the area and judged where would be best to film. They also took a few shots and worked out what shots we are going to take when we film. Below is our story board in detail, the story board has notes on it which describes what is happening in that shot and what type of shot it is.

In today's lesson (12/10/15) we filmed our pre-lim task at galley wood common from 1:45-3:15 , below are a few shots of Alex filming as this was the role he took.

In today's lesson (13/10/15) we went over the footage we got from last lesson, Alex had put all the footage together, we improved our story board to what actually occurred during the footage and discussed what we was going to do to improve the footage. We decided that in tomorrow's lesson we will re film some parts that could have better acting or better camera work.

Juno Opening Scene

In today's lesson (01/10/15) we got into groups for our task. our task was to create a video as similar to the Juno 'All I want is you' as we can. My group consisted of Melissa, Toby and me, Melissa was the actor in the film, I played a small part in the film as one of the runners and I also provided some of the props. Toby filmed the majority of the video.
This is our story board:

This is our final video:

Analysis of Juno

I think our Juno video didn't go very well as we missed vital shots such as the lamp post and the feet shot, although this was our first attempt with the cameras and filming. Our group did work well together and we all had equal parts.

We created a story board that should have had more detail because we forgot important shots, therefore if the story board was detailed enough we wouldn't have missed the shots. Although our filming was good for the detail we had. The storyboard was mostly accurate, the timings went well and the type of shots went well. But it was a correct representation of the opening scene of Juno.

The strengths of my group was that we worked well together and allocated roles fairly and worked hard to make the video correct. The weaknesses of my group was that the planning of the story board was not done thoroughly enough. The editing process was a strength allow we all did it separately and we did well to make it look good considering the lack of footage which was another weakness. Another weakness was that the runner was running in the wrong direction and we forgot small details of the scene, for example the person who played Juno should have pretended to drink the bottle of juice in the scene but she didn't.

We used still shots, medium shots, close up shots and tracking shots when filming. When editing we used premiere and i used the slow motion effect to get the walking in time with the real video. I also edited using effects to cartoon the video which made in similar to the real video.

In conclusion i have learnt that i need more practice when using the camera and when using premiere to edit my videos, i also learnt that the storyboard is key when filming so that you know exactly what your doing and so that you don't miss out on key information. This therefore means that next time i do a story board i will make it thorough and clear to understand.

Film Pitch

In todays lesson (23/09/15) we got into groups to create a film pitch, my group consisted of me, Megan, Max and Tez.
This is the powerpoint we created to pitch our film:

Feedback

We got feedback from the other students in our class. overall we concluded that other people didn't think our film pitch would attract our target audience and there was no clear element of sic-fi which was part of the genre. although they did think that our title was interesting and that we had good characters and actors playing in our film even though some were big stars.

Pete Fraser Talk

In todays lesson (2/10/15) we learnt techniques on creating a film opening and how important all elements of creating a film opening are. For example it is essential to have good camera skills and to have not given the whole story away.
We watched previous years film openings and judged what marks they would have got for their film opening.

Pete Fraser advised to have a simple idea as there a many things that could go wrong. He also said that the idea must be realistic and that research is key when deciding how you are going to do your film opening.

Title research
The following are the main things needed in a film opening:

Appearance
Setting
Genre
Character
Narrative

We learnt that planning is really important so that your actors know exactly what to d and so that your opening scene turns out how you want it be.

Also that you should make sure it doesn’t look like a trailer, by putting the title of the film opening in the middle of it rather than at the end.

The titles should be arranged on the video in a clear and immaculate way that appeals to the viewers.

This is the powerpoint he showed us throughout he's talk:
