Representation

In today's lesson we learnt about representation this is the way in which people, events and ideas are presented to the audience. The media takes something hat is already there and re-resets it to us in a way that they choose.

Stereotype- A short cut, and a quick way of showing something.
Archetype- Ultimate stereotype.
Counter type- A representation that challenges traditional stereotypical associations of group, people or places.

C- Job, money

A- Age

G- Gender, male/ female/transgender

E- Ethnicity, race/colour/religion

S- Sexuality

https://heydeclan.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/movie-poster3.jpgFor example the film poster Burlesque is relevant to money and job because the girl 'Christina' in the film poster is clearly a dancer from burlesque in clubs which may be presumed a degrading considering what she is wearing, she does this for money as her job. The poster also shows that 'Christina' must be old enough to work in a club, but that the outfit she is wearing may make her look older. The gender is clearly women in this example and there are shadows of female dancers in the background of the poster. The ethnicity in the poster is white and shows no religion, but there are more actors in the film so we don't know the religion it may be based on, there could also be other people of different races. Finally the sexuality in the film poster is key in this example because sexuality is used to present it to the audience and attract the audience, this the main concept used. Ir is clear that there is sexual parts to the film because of what the girl in the poster was dressed in and in the place in which she is, therefore the club. In my opinion clubs tend to symbolise sexuality.
